What's Left?

After one shoot already, we got a lot of filiming done, filiming half of the opening already. All that remains for our group to do is film the rest of our opening successfully, and judge whether we need to re-shoot some scenes or not. After all of that is complete, we will begin editing our opening, after an editing class today, editing is going to be a big part in the production and will show whether we make or break.

Preliminary Movie

This is our preliminary movie. We filmed this in preparation for our opening so that we would be able to use the basic shots needed e.g: shot/reverse shot, over the shoulder shot and match on action shot.

Mac Suite - Preliminary Task

Today we worked in the Mac sweets to edit our preliminary task. We got there and we're given out mac account details. We were then guided on how to upload our filming products and given a website link for tutorials to use the program Final Cut Pro. As we started this we had difficulties opening our shots as we filmed in HD which we were told not too, so we had to change the settings of each clip and save them into a new folder. Me and Mattie then finally uploaded all the clips needed and put them together in order. We did realise a mistake had been made in filming, we missed a match on action shot, so we had to cut and and close gaps to make it work. After that we had no more issues and finished our days editing successfully.

Preliminary Task.

For our task we are going to have me and Dean playing MARVEL(c) Chess. Dean will walk down the corridor and enter the room, as he entersthe room we will have a match on action shot to show 2 different angles as he enters the room. Also we will use this show when he walks down the ramp to face me, the champion of chess. As they play we will have shot/reverse shots, over the shoulder, throughout the whole of this we will constantly keep to the 180* degree rule.

Narrative Theories Research

A Narrative is a story, as stories are endemic to our lives.

Narrative has probably exisisted as long as human beings have.

There are three narrative theories which consist of:

Binary Oppostions - create meaning through establishing what something is not, they can help establish who the 'good' and 'bad' characters are. The idea that we cannot conceive the concept of 'good' without the presence of 'bad' with which to compare.

Equilibrium - The life at the start
Disequilibrium - The problem that occurs
New state of equilibrium - The problem is resolved

Character TypeHero - Leads the narrative, on a quest to solve a problem
Villian - Conflicts with the hero
Heroine - Usually a sort of prize for the hero
Father - Authority figure who offers a reward for the hero
Helper - Helps the hero usually a sidekick
Donor - Gives the hero something - Powers, Gift, Key, Etc.
Mentor - Teaches and guides the hero through his quest.

In the opening of our film I think that all three of these will be majorly useful as they all do there own thing. Each one of them stands out in there own way, and is important in there own way.

Audience Research

Why is audience research important?

Audience research is important because if the film producers want there film to be successful then they must find out what the audience likes, so the audience go out and watch there film and in some cases ask for a sequel to be made.

How audiences are catergorized?
Audiences are catergorized by demographics.

Examples of audience are as follows: AGE, CLASS, HABITS, LIKES, DISLIKES, RELIGON, NATIONALITY, ETHINICTY, GENDER and IMAGE.

Genre Research

Genre is the term for any catergory of film.

Genre can offer a comforting reasurrance in a uncontrollable world.

It offers a set of easily recognisable conventions.

It was seen as a creative strategy used by producers to ensure audience identification and reduce the rise of a film failing.

This shows how genre is not static but is constantly recognised often between industry and audience.

  • Settings and Props - They are stuck in an elevator so this already shows the funny side of the situation 3 men and a baby, also one of the men has hurt himself.
  • Costume, Hair & Make Up - The guy on the far left has a beard and is wearing sunglasses, not your usual guy which is funny, then the middle guy has his glasses hanging, nice shirt and jeans, just laid back casual, and the guy on the far right has glasses maybe stereotyping him as a geek.
  • Facial Expressions & Body Language - The facial expressions and body language are very important, for example the guy on the far right appears to be hurt, whats suggests this is the fact he is holding a tissue to his mouth and looks in pain, the guy in the center, judging his facial expressions he looks laidback and cool not caring about the situation in hand. Last of all the guy on the left, looks stupid as ever, he has a beard, sunglasses, in an elevator not making any sense at all. Whereas the baby, looks like it's in it's own world, and probably 'done' toilet.

Comedy Movie Poster Annotation

Genre: The genre of this poster is a comedy/spoof.

Codes & Conventions:

  1. Make the audience laugh

  2. Sticking to theme of a spoof of another film

  3. It also expects that the people who watch the film to have watched the films it makes fun of, otherwise the audience wouldn't get the jokes.
Denotative Levels:

  • His Dragonfly Logo meaning his logo isn't a great animal so meaning he isn't as strong possibly.
  • The popcorn on the poster is associated with the main superhero suggesting he's a normal everyday casual guy and not a strong brave dedicated superhero like the rest.

Connative Levels:
  • The spoofs of different types of superhero's suggesting there all bad, meaning they aren't proper superhero's.
  • The quote ' the greatest superhero movie of all time(not including the others) ' this just says it all, it's sarcasm highlights how bad it is.

Audience:

The selected audience for this film would be fans of superhero movies, because it is a superhero movie, although it is a spoof, so lovers of films such as Scary Movie, Not another Teen Movie and etc.... would enjoy this, they would expect explosions, fights, a pretty girl and a super villian but because it's a spoof they'd expect a really bad superhero, a stupid super hot girl, and a super villian that tries to be bad but isn't cut for the job.

Saving Private Ryan - Opening Scene - First Film Analysis

This is the opening of the film Saving Private Ryan. The film genre is a war film. The genre conventions are to present warfare, usually about naval, air and land battles, sometimes focusing on prisoners of war, covert operations, military training or other related subjects.

The opening scene is set on the Ohama beaches, as the soldiers are just going into war, this symbolises there has been a major disagreement or argument over something between two countries or possibly more.

The key signifiers in the opening sequence are the sound of rain and guns bullets firing, eventually leading to the boat being dropped and silence as the soldiers are underwater and cannot hear. The sound of bullets firing signifies war which is what there about to start and the sound of rain, signifies sad times ahead, quiet and patience.

This sequence tells us that it's going to be a film full of action packed war. I expect the rest of the film to be full of war and fighting and someone to win the war, or for the problem there having to be resolved.

The audience that is being targeted are people who want action, explosions, war heros, weapons and evil leaders.

SuperBad - Movie Trailer - HD Quality

Superbad -  Superbad is a perfect comedy, it's about a group of teens who want to get noticed by some girls and the rest of there classmates before they leave for college, this brings you laughs throughout the whole film. This would be a good film to base our own comedy opening on.
